"We first met John about 10 years ago. He was recommended through my wife's Sister and her husband. They had engaged his company to get their financial affairs in order and had recommended John to us after he began looking after them.

I'm not a financial person by any means, although our income could be seen to be relatively high in comparison to others. In my opinion, we had made some poor investments and were a little gun-shy of making any other bad investments. Like some other professionals, I found that I'd rather let things roll along than take any more risks.

Our dilemma was that we had just bought our first house after years of renting and trying to save for a deposit. We had just had our third child. Among all of our other aspirations, we desired to send our children through private school. We also had a variety of other loans and commitments which were tying up our disposable income.

John had made an appointment with us, taken all of our details over a two hour period and went away to work on our case. We had detailed our goals and aspirations, our financial commitments and requirements over a couple of cups of coffee and a few laughs.
